First Week of Work

On Tuesday I started work as an Associate at Atlas NetConversions. So for the most part, things have taken a radical change in my life. Ha, well not really, more so in that I can no longer sleep in five days a week and I spend forty hours a week with a nifty name badge on my hip. That aside, work is pretty cool. I found a bus route that gets me from U-District to Pioneer Square in 9 minutes, making my commute ridiculously short. Exciting stuff, let me tell you.

Now it’s just adjusting time. The whole 40-hour work week is new to me, but I can’t complain. It’s also weird not having any “extra-curricular” things going on. For as long as I can remember, certain days of the week has meant different events. Like on Thursday nights I close at the lab, Friday nights I do Kung Fu, Monday nights I take this or that class, etc. Right now, not so much. And while it is nice having my afternoons free, I personally miss associating a day with an activity. Now it’s just a matter of figuring out what I want to do. Namely I’ve been thinking about if I should take on Capoeira full-time. Oh and if anyone’s interested in a physical EC class, let me know. (I was down for rowing, but realized I still need to learn to swim. Gah.)

But decisions decisions. It’s summer in Seattle and the weather has really been nice lately. My Lola is still in town for one more week. I visited her with Ernelyn and Ben Friday night and we brought her Ivar’s fish and chips. I’ve recently realized that I’ve been going to Ivar’s once a week for almost two months now. Yet all I can think about is how I’m craving some of their oysters and chips right now. Oh how Northwest of me.

Anyway, so begins Jamie’s life after college.

The whole 40 hour work week is an adjustment, but you’ll quickly get used to it. Yeah, getting up early sucks when you haven’t done it for a while, but give it a week or two more and you’ll get into the swing of it. As for staying active outside of work, yea, it’s interesting to figure out what you do with your time after 5pm. I have been thinking about how I need to structure it more since right now I don’t do a whole lot and my time feels wasted. I’m sure I’ll figure something out… maybe it’s finally time to teach you how to swim.

Wow in 9 minutes? Which bus is that? Does it get you back in 9 minutes also?

It’s the 355 Express. And nah, I take the Express buses in the tunnel heading back, so it’s a bit longer but I don’t mind. 🙂
